Corporate gifts are the gifts offered by the employer to their employees as a token of goodwill and appreciation.

The tradition of corporate gifting has been there in corporate houses and large firms for decades. One can simply search on an online store and hundreds of results will appear.

But, to create or plan corporate gifts that are worth remembering by the employees, is a whole different ballgame.

In order to pull off corporate gifting that will be liked and remembered by today’s global enterprise, these are the five basic aspects one should keep in mind:

1: Personalization

A personalized gift presents a caring image of the gift-giver and creates a lasting impression on the mind of the receiver. Impersonal gifts on the other hand, eventually end up in the trash can. Flowers and cake with a handwritten note from the employer on personal milestones such as birthdays, wedding anniversaries, work anniversaries etc automatically improves the employee-employer relationship.

2: Right timing

Corporate gifts are mostly given out only during specific festivals or around holidays (such as Christmas, Diwali). But it might not always be a great idea.

Cultural differences must be acknowledged. One must ensure that if gift giving during festivals is a tradition that they follow, people belonging from a diverse background who observe different festivities should be given gifts according to their preferences.

Gifting employees on their personal milestones is always a great idea. Also, gifts at times when employees are least expecting it offers a higher level of satisfaction.

3: Appropriateness

A lot of things can go wrong in the office environment. Certain business etiquette and guidelines are to be followed, unlike personal gifting. The gift must be appropriate in the business setting.

You want to be personal, but not too personal; creative but not too experimental, casual yet formal etc. Also, be extra careful that your gift doesn’t seem like a bribe. Whenever you’re unsure about the appropriateness of the gift, use your own judgment.

4: Creativity

A memorable gift has to be innovative. Nothing can ever beat a meaningful but at the same the original gift idea. Like I already mentioned, corporate gifting is not a new trend, it has been an important part of business culture for a really long time now, in order to ace corporate gifting brainstorming is a must!

Gone are the days when you could make your entire team happy with a turkey on Thanksgiving or Diary on New Year’s Day.

5: Quality

A Corporate gift is a representation of company name and reputation.

The first step in gift planning is deciding on a budget. Having a good budget for gifting is always great, but even not, one should only give the best that comes within the budget.

Having a limited budget is still okay but compromising on the quality is not.
