Minimalism? My change of view.

When I first encountered minimalism it did not appeal to me. It appeared to me as a hipster trend that was centered around being happy with nothing because you do not want to do anything to achieve more in life. So I dismissed it.

Matt D’Avella is the creator of the Netflix documentary Minimalism and has a highly successful YouTube channel, which is where I discovered him. Hueguh is a YouTube channel and Instagram page run by a guy named Eric. The name ‘hueguh’ comes from the word danish hygge, which means cozy and minimalistic living, enjoying the little things in life. Lastly, Hey Gents is an Australian blog focused around minimalistic, aesthetic and Scandinavian design. Both within your home and your overall life.

I started watching Matt D’avella around two years ago and started to get intrigued in a different approach to the minimalistic lifestyle. His is less of a one-size-fits-all mentality and more of what works for your individual lives. He talks about how pairing down your belongings and decluttering your physical and mental life can help with your overall productivity and clarity in your day-to-day living.

You can check out one of his videos right here.

The second person that further changed my view of minimalism and the different aspects of it was a guy named Eric, over at hueguh. As I talked about earlier, hueguh comes from the Danish word “hygge”, which means cozy and minimalistic living, which is exactly what Eric’s channel represents. Eric has many videos ranging from his minimalistic morning routine to wardrobe videos talking about his winter and summer essentials. The aesthetic of his way of living and approach to minimalism further intrigued me to the idea and so my journey into the realm of minimalistic living continued.

You can check out one of his videos below.

The last place that truly opened my eyes to minimalism and the different aspects of what it represents is the Australian blog Hey Gents. This blog focuses on skandinavian minimalistic design with homes and offices, as well as vehicles, travel, style, and drinks. Not everything on their blog is about minimalism, but it is about quality living in an aesthetic manner.

You can check out one of their blog posts below.

So, my new viewpoint and approach to the minimalistic lifestyle are different than many people’s, as it should be. I am much more intrigued by the aesthetics of the lifestyle and how it can help with your productivity in life. By simply cleaning my room and my environment, decluttering my digital life on social media as well as the rest of my phone, and becoming more disciplined with staying organized has skyrocketed my productivity and my overall happiness in life and in my home. Your mind is often a reflection of what you are around, so an environment that is cluttered and in chaos often leads to your mind being cluttered and chaotic. So I urge you to look further into the minimalistic lifestyle and how it can help declutter and improve your life and your mind.

Thank You.
